Artist's Comments

Just another day in the lives of the Gumbo Folk: Murk, Mafo, Andw, and Jams.

I had a lot of fun with this animation. It took longer than expected, but I'm happy with the end result.

I'm slowly working on some other stuff, but school is taking up my time, so this may be the last update for a little while.

Anyways, enjoy!

Okay, here's my comment.
First off, the loading screen. I already told you I liked the cigarette thing, and that holds true now. Using smoking in odd ways with creative stuff has always been a thing of mine. The runnin' murk is also quite awesome. I'm not sure I like it as much as the Louis, which was smaller and cuter, but it's still good.
The music's great, I really like it. Extremely appropriate. I checked out that guy the person above mentioned, too. He has good stuff.

Opening scene:
All-around goodness, and you manage to capture us all well. Andw's position is great, and it seems like something he might actually be in. James on the bean bag is appropriate, especially with the stuff spilling out of it. Being in a rocking chair is less oriented toward my character and more toward the sense of boredom, but that's good too. The subtle movements (James yawns, foot wiggling, you nodding your head) are all fine. Add a little something so it's not too boring, while still portraying boredom in the scene.
You speak to me. No lip synch, so far as I can tell, but that makes perfect sense since there's no audio.
Awesomize. The entire concept here is, needless to say, AWESOME. Anyway, yeah, I really like the idea of us doing this.

The Action:
Your upward spin (as the change in music starts) is very smoothly animated, quite well done. Looks awesome, too, it's the perfect start for the action ahead. The blink makes it look even funnier, and the grin right before we start running is a nice subtle touch.
My rising up and then slight slump is very appropriate for my character: cool as hell. Andw's is also neat and fitting. I note that he's wearing sandals, too. I'm not sure whether that was standard in other stuff, but you definitely keep close to our personalities with subtle stuff like that. James has sort of a Vanna White thing going on there, but that's also oddly fitting.
You and I talking and running together is good, especially since we tend to be the central characters in the comics. As for the individual runs. . .
Andw: Walking backwards is really cool, and to imply that he's keeping up with you and I running full speed is great. Has he moonwalked in another animation? I know it was mentioned in an Us comic, but I get the impression I've seen it in motion before.
Jams: Running rather slowly before falling down. Nice. The fall itself, and his expression, are funny.
Me: Running with intensity and an angry look on my face. Very in-tune with my comic personality and somewhat reflects how I actually run.
You: Just like how you actually run. Damn cool. You and I circling around each other only adds to the effect, since are runs are a little less dynamic than Andw's and Jams's. That just brings it all together.

I love the part where you and I are running together toward the camera. I don't know if you meant it to or not (probably did), but the music synchronizes really well with our running, which makes it awesome. Also I straight out like the way our runs look, so exaggerated and kinda silly, even (for example, we're both grinning now and have both lost our angry/determined faces from before, it all changes perfectly). This part could be my favorite part, because it all comes together here somehow.
Stephi-kat's brief appearance is also nicely done.

The shot pans over to you, and you launch off the ground and fly through the air. All of our separate launches are befitting, of course. I'm rocketing through the air, fists in front of me, determined and powerful. Andw is gliding rather effortlessly, sitting indian-style. James is upside down and confused, and his man-boobs are flapping delicately in the wind. Your initial jump is quite cool, but I like how you spread your arms and give a happy grin and just let the wind take you. I fall back some, which provides more attention to this change. Nice.

I like how we arrive in the middle of the cloud area as if we were dolls that got set there, we just sort of rise up rigidly and stay until we're all there. The clouds suddenly disappear (implying immediate ground-ness, which is a cool enigma that can only be explained by awesomization) and we become suddenly full of life again. The camera spins around and we all jump up, grinnin', to do an awesome all-together high five. The explosion is incredibly sloppy, but that's very much your style and it adds to the humor.
The black screen is alright, since it allows for a break between the explosion and us being blackened, but it's not really necessary. I don't think you need the (rather worn out) humor of omgs and lols (though dizzy you is kinda funny) for this animation. Or any of your animations, really. They stand well enough alone not to rely on internet humor that's not actually all that funny. So it's okay, it does what it needs to, but it'd be just as good if it were, say, the smoke clearing and us standing there.
Burnt us is hilarious, and a great ending to the entire awesomize thing. Then I saw awesome. Kickass. Everything in this animation is completely rad and this is a spectacular ending to it all. James's burnt self looks especially funny.

A damn fine animation, my friend. Of course I'll have to favorite this sucka. Good work, I love it.

Ah, you mean Vinnie's animations - - That guy has become my arch rival. I will defeat him one day. is also good.

The opening scene. Yeah, while we were talking last night, I realized that it was a little odd to have you in a rocking chair. But I didn't want you in a regular chair, because the more subtle movement, the better. I was so gonna add a clock, and a window with clouds moving slowly, but I guess I forgot. I tried something a little quicker for the mouths. Just made a small looping animation with ten different mouth positions. I enjoy syncing lips a lot, but I figured nobody would pay attention without any audio. I really like the small part as soon as you say your line; you turn your head very sharply, not looking at anything in particular, face rigid, focused on the goal. The goal... to awesomize. :D

I try to keep Andw in sandals as often as I can remember to. I did notice that in the opening of the action scene, his shirt is a bit different. Forgot to correct that. Heh. Vanna White. Andw's slow paced footing, yet high speed movement reminded me of the Olde Tyme Animation of us in B&W where Andw is walking peacefully with the three of us in the form of a fighting dust cloud behind. Though he's walking slowly, he's moving increadibly fast. Meh.

The running towards the camera scene is also my favorite part. It just shows that we've forgotten about our determination, as you said, and are just havin' a buttload of fun. Also, I liked it because it's more fluid and cartoony that a lot of my other stuff. I wanted to do an animation like this to try and become more stretchy with my style, kind of like how Vinne (kite-ride) does some of his stuff, but without stealing his style. And as with most of the animation, I most certainly did try to sync the mood with the music. As for the mini-cat in one of the frames, Stpi was over here and doodled it on my laptop, so I decided to just leave it there for people to notice.

Heh. Man-boobs. I really enjoy the air scene too, as can be seen by my avatar. As for the static period among the clouds, I was debating how to go about that. Ultimately, I decided just to have us fly up in standing position. My first attempt had us floating, but my gut told me to change it. I kind of wish that I made a zoom-in effect for the high-five bit. Just has a lot of energy put into it, yet it's far away. I did three different explosions, and this one was the least bad. One was a mushroom cloud, but I use that too much, and there wasn't enough upper room. Meh. As for the black, OMG High-5 screen, I really didn't like it. For the content too, but mainly because it's an extremely dark scene with blank, white frames on each end. I don't know why I kept it in there. I definately wanted to keep in our burnt selves fading into the scene from the whiteness. I was going to add smoke effects, but I figured the charred ground was enough. Also, I did sync you saying 'Awesome' and I enjoy it muchly.

Much appreciated is your extensive comment. I most certainly spent more time on this than the previous junk submissions, so I was hoping for more feedback. I will take your words into consideration for the next animation.

One day I am gonna make an appearence in here and beat the fuck out of all of you guys (seeing I am of the later gumbo collection). If I knew how to use flash (and yes I dont know how), I would make an animation of you and mafo being kicked in the head with a big ass boot!

Naw just joking. This was a rather nice one! I love the way you drew them running over the hill, and then Jams sitting on the bean bag and bits fallin out...that was hilarious! Fav shall be given
